Zenger Consulting's Mike Hiestand provides legal consulting and education services on media law, free expression and freedom of information issues that affect the high school and college student press community.

One of Zenger Consulting's main clients is the nonprofit Student Press Law Center, located just outside Washington, DC. The SPLC, founded in 1974, is an advocate for student free-press rights and provides information, advice and legal assistance at no charge to students and the educators who work with them. In cooperation with the SPLC,  Zenger Consulting is able to provide free legal help and information to hundreds of student journalists throughout the United States and abroad.

In addition, Mr. Hiestand participates at various student and professional journalism conferences across the country and is available to conduct workshops or speak to audiences on various media law issues.
